Resumen
Este artículo estudia el breve texto que el barón Charles de Davillier dedicó a la romería del Rocío de 1862, a la que asistió con el prestigioso pintor e ilustrador Gustave Doré. Este texto forma parte de una extensa obra que se publicó en forma de libro en 1874, con más de 300 grabados de Doré, incluyendo uno sobre El Rocío. En primer lugar, se sitúa este libro en el marco de la rica literatura de viajes por la España del siglo xix, caracterizada por su visión romántica de la cultura española y, particularmente, de Andalucía. Tras algunas referencias biográfi cas a Davillier y Doré, se expone el contenido de su relato, en el contexto de un capítulo dedicado a Sevilla y sus fi estas, y, a continuación, se analiza la perspectiva que ambos adoptan al describir la romería, sirviéndonos para ello de frecuentes comparaciones con el texto que, en 1858, otro francés, Antoine de Latour, publicó sobre El Rocío.

Abstract
This article presents and interprets a brief text that Baron de Davillier devoted to the Romería del Rocío of 1862, which he attended in the company of the renowned painter and illustrator, Gustave Doré. Th is text is but a small part of a much more extensive work that was published as a book in 1874 and that included more than 300 drawings by Doré, including one depicting El Rocío. First, this book is situated in the context of the rich travel literature
about the Spain of the nineteenth century that was characterized by a romantic vision of Spanish culture, especially that of Andalusia. After some biographical background about Davillier and Doré, the content of their account is presented focusing on their chapter on Seville and its festivals. Finally, the perspective adopted by both writer and artist in describing El Rocío is analyzed comparing it with the text published in 1858 about El Rocío by another Frenchman, Antoine de Latour.
