Bio

Emily is a PhD student in biocultural medical anthropology. She is also a birth and postpartum doula! Emily received her MA in anthropology at the University of Alabama and her BA in international studies at The Ohio State University. She is the coordinator for Dr. Horan’s Collaborative Care Lab and the President of Lambda Alpha Honor Society. She currently serves as a Board Member for two local organizations: Postpartum Support International – Alabama Chapter and The Skylar Project, a non-profit dedicated to caring for birth givers and newborns during the postpartum period. She is a Graduate Research Assistant for the Center for Community Based Partnerships and the Graduate Student Secretariat for Partners for Alabama Families and Communities, a trans-disciplinary perinatal health collaborative at UA. As a doctoral student, she plans to explore different models of doula care across the southeast region of the U.S. Pronouns: she/her/hers
