Paul Eubanks

I am interested in the prehistory of the southeastern United States especially as it relates to migration, settlement, ethnicity, and the role of salt in the development of social and political complexity.

I have done archaeological fieldwork in South Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama.  I recentely directed excavations at the Armory site, a Middle Woodland mound site in central Alabama.  The data from this excavation were the focus of my M.A. thesis research.

My Ph.D. research focuses on specialization, migration, and the use of salt in prehistoric Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas.  In the coming years, I will be studying collections from sites in these areas and conducting excavations at salt-production sites in northern Louisiana.
