Ana Maria Ochoa
I am originally from Medellin, Colombia. I graduated with a B.S. degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Antioquia (Colombia), where I also followed graduate studies in Psychology. In Colombia, I was able to study the eating patterns and body practices among teenagers in a high school in Medellin. In Colombia I was able to teach for nine years. I earned my Master’s in Medical Anthropology from the University of Amsterdam. My thesis focused on eating patterns and their relationship with body image among Dutch teenagers.
I decided to study my PhD at University of Alabama for their track in biocultural medical anthropology and I am planning on examining the cultural models, socioeconomic status and adherence to the treatment in type 2 diabetic patients in Medellin, Colombia
Interests: nutritional anthropology, health disparities, gender, ethnicity and health.
